Madonna, Edvard Munch (1894)


This is one of my favorite paintings. Munch painted five versions of his ‘Madonna’ over the course of a year but this one is the only one I really like. It represents a figure that is typically seen as chaste and pure, in a moment of sensuality and rawness that you don’t usually see. I’ve always felt connected to the calm confidence she radiates, and I love that the typical gold halo around her head is crimson…
